Dorchester’s annual observation of Memorial Day will have a distinctly Irish accent this year. The keynote speaker of the time-honored ceremony in Cedar Grove Cemetery on May 29 will be Brigadier General Peter O’Halloran, who has serves with the Irish Army.

O’Halloran has a special connection to Dorchester. His brother, Damion O’Halloran, is a well-known bartender at the Eire Pub.

Gen. O’Halloran has served 10 tours of duty over his four decades in uniform, including stints attached to the United Nations and NATO forces. He is the married father of four, living in Co. Westmeath.

The ceremony at Cedar Grove Cemetery starts around 10 a.m. following a parade from the John P. McKeon Post AMVETS #146 on Hilltop Street. Five different Dorchester veteran posts will participate in the observances.

A Message from 1st Vice Commander

We are ready for this years membership renewal. That means it is time to “PAY YOUR DUES!” This year’s dues will be $40. Remember AMVETS has changed their membership dates. The membership year is September 1 to August 31. Renewal applications can be downloaded by clicking on on the links below.

This has been a nightmare for all of us, both the members and the membership chairman. National is not notifying The McKeon Post if you paid dues. Therefore the post doesn’t acknowledge that you a re paid upland your membership card is deactivated. So please, disregard the national renewal notice and send your dues directly to the post, or even better, come down on the dates of our membership drive is going on and pay them.

This year Veteran Members will be receiving a new Veteran ID Card from National (at least that is what we were told.) Now don’t forget the White Plastic Key Card to enter the building is still in effect. All we do is activate the card electronically in our computer and you are good to go, BUT, if you don’t pay your dues it is just as easy to DEACTIVATE it.

See you down the post! Help your your post out and pay your dues in September!
